Samples of the three needlework panels were made about 1569-84 by Mary, Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick during the time of Mary’s imprisonment at Tutbury Castle. The small applique panels are worked in cross-stitch or tent-stitch with mottos, and motifs and scenes taken from woodcuts in contemporary books of natural history. Featured at Oxburgh Hall.
