Whistle in the form of a seated voluptuous female, possibly the Moon Goddess
A.D. 600–800

Late Classic

Maya

This woman sports a common Maya female hairdo, parted at the middle, with stepped bangs and a bun sitting high on the back of the head. She wears earrings, a twisted-cord necklace, bracelets, and a simple, high-waisted skirt. Remaining paint suggests that either her breasts were exposed or that she wore a revealing, sheer blue wrap. Her sexually-charged costume, distinctly Maya beauty, and inviting gesture imbue the figurine with a strong sense of sexuality. Similarly rendered figurines are sometimes accompanied by old men, and, as items included in burials, may have served to ensure men sexual bliss after death. Her appearance also resembles that of the seductive Moon Goddess.
