Egon Schiele, Austrian painter, 1890-1918, shown here in Vienna in 1915. Schiele was a protégé of Gustav Klimt. He was an early exponent of Expressionism. He and his wife died only 3 days apart in the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918. He was only 28 years old. In spite of his short life, his corpus of works have earned him a major place in 20th century art of the western world.
